Remember when you'd be watching cable TV on your couch and all of a sudden see a colorful and engaging ad advertising the one and only Easy-Bake Oven? I can assure you that you were not the only one, as I would literally foam at the mouth seeing the delicious-looking treats that came out of the beautiful and girly oven. Thinking back on it now though, the food that came from that oven was most definitely bland. In all honesty, I'm surprised my parents even bought me one considering the fire and health hazards that came along with that toy. I mean, you're seriously telling me parents all over the country trusted their little girls with a literal oven? Even thinking about that makes me uneasy, but that's besides the point I guess. As for my health, I cannot tell you guys how sick I became after making and feasting like a king on the chocolate truffles (and yes, I absolutely DEVOURED those things, please keep in mind I was like eight). I feel like we as a society don't talk about the trauma that came from those torture devices, but what is trauma without joking about it, am I right? But actually, let's talk about this seriously. Easy-Bakes were the IT toy, and unless you had one... well, let's just leave it at that. If there was so much hype surrounding it then, why isn't there any now? Thanks to the internet and my five-minute research (you're welcome), I've come to the conclusion that, unfortunately (is it really???), Easy-Bake Ovens were recalled. Why? Because a little girl had to get her finger amputated since she acquired an acute burn. And it wasn't just this poor girl who was scarred for life due to these villains in disguise, but countless of other children who were affected by the ovens. Are we really surprised? It isn't really a shocker that they lost their hype since they're so dangerous. But, just because they've lost their hype doesn't mean they are gone. Nope, they're still in production. I don't even know how to react to that, so I'll just stop here.
Overall, I've come to a logical and safe conclusion: Easy-Bake Ovens suck.
This was so relatable because I also used to salivate at Easy Bake Oven ads (not an exaggeration). I really liked how you included rhetorical questions to critique the company's decisions to create the Easy Bake Oven. Maybe you could include your own experience with the Easy Bake Oven to connect it to how they are poorly made. Overall, I loved the way you established your own voice through the humor, and you did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI loved that oven so much oh my god. That thing was also hella expensive too idk why I had it. I never burnt myself but I can see where the hazardous aspects play into part here.
ReplyDeleteI loved your blog. And I could personally relate to getting sick from these ovens. It was not fun. I remeber spending the night at the hospital cuz I couldn't stop throwing up.
ReplyDeleteThe blog was very well-written. Also I can not relate, as I never really played with it. But, I can totally imagine how it could be. I loved to read a different childhood game that other played.
